REFORMER/MACHINE PILATES – PRE-SURGERY (Prehab)

Our physio-led reformer Pilates sessions focus on strength, stability, and balance using low-impact exercises and controlled movement to protect your joints. In each session, we will work with you to develop a progressive programme of movements and exercises aimed at avoiding injury, decreasing pain, and preparing for your surgery. This helps to identify issues in strength, stability, range of motion, balance, and overall joint function, getting your mind and body ready for what it will be like after your surgery.

Regular sessions help to strengthen your muscles for faster recovery along with strengthening the tissues around your joints to help joint mobility return more swiftly. Your improved core strength and balance will enable you to get up and move safely, reducing the risk of a fall and getting you back to your daily activities sooner.

Reformer/Machine Pilates Pre-hab sessions are often taken as a 1:1 session or as part of a Group Reformer session (6:1) but can be offered as a closed group of up to six people if you would like a regular private session with friends.

Your pre-surgery journey will start with an in-depth assessment, diagnosis, and treatment with a senior Physiotherapist. During this first visit, we will take a history of your condition, look at your movement, using Pilates exercises, and to assess you as well giving you a brief introduction to machine-based Pilates. We will explain our findings including advice on what precautions you may need to take after surgery and help you prepare your home for discharge to get you back on your feet swiftly and feel confident and safe doing so. We will also give you a small selection of home exercises to get you going in preparation for your next session. Together you and the physio will agree on a goal-led plan to target your specific needs. You will discuss which session types (Private or Group Classes) may be most beneficial for you.

REFORMER/MACHINE PILATES – POST-SURGERY (Rehab)

Our physio-led Reformer Pilates sessions do not exacerbate but help to reduce pain and offer safe gradual strengthening which is both effective and low-impact. We will work with you to develop a progressive programme of movements and exercises using the Reformer machine to adjust resistance and gradually increase it as your recovery progresses; gentle on the joints, controlled and physio-led at every stage.

Your improved core strength and balance will enable you to get up and move safely, reducing the risk of a fall and getting you back to your daily activities sooner. Slow, controlled movement helps to encourage connection to and better understanding of your body post-surgery, minimising the risk of pushing too far, or too soon. Read Simon’s Testimonial
